Academic Report: Theoretical Study on the Optical Responses of Local Field

07 Dec , 2017

Time:17:30, Dec. 10th(Sunday), 2017

Venue:417, Building of Science, West Campus

Topic:Theoretical Study on the Optical Responses of Local Field

Lecturer:Dr. Sai Duan

About the Lecturer:Dr. Sai Duan graduated from Department of Chemistry, Xiamen University, and obtained his Doctor’s Degree in Physics and Chemistry at Xiamen University in 2011 and in Chemistry and Biology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in 2012. Duan engaged in postdoctoral research at KTH from June, 2012, and he is now a researcher at KTH.

Dr. Duan has been working on the development and application of theoretical chemistry in the past decade, especially the development of new theory and algorithm of spectroscopy based on plasmon, and has developed the corresponding software package independently. Based on quantum field theory and calculating method of quantum chemistry, a rigid theoretical framework of the interaction between the local optical field and the matter is established, perfectly explaining the phenomena observed in the experiment with the simulation of first principles. With Duan’s work, which has broad prospect in basic research and practical application, the theoretical foundation of the plasmon spectrum has been established and the understanding of the interaction between light and matter has been expanded. Duan has published 38 research papers on international academic journals including J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Chem. Commun., Nanoscale, and J. Chem. Theory Comput (17 papers as the first author or corresponding author, one paper on the back cover of Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., and one paper as the hot paper on Chem. Commun). The citation on SCI is over 900 times with an H index of 12.

About the Lecture:The interface has rich and unique optical properties due to the plasmon. Recently, we have established the interaction between the local plasmon and the interfacial adsorption molecule, thus strictly describing the scattering of the molecule to the local plasmon. With this theory, we repeated the results of Raman, the highest precision imaging experiment and proposed in theory that the non-resonant Raman scattering of plasmon can be a practical experimental method to observe interfacial molecule vibration. With non-resonant Raman scattering, we demonstrated the influence of isotopic effects on interface optical signals at different temperatures. Furthermore, we found that local plasmon can regulate the dynamical properties of the optical transitions of the interfacial molecules, thus providing a convenient means for manipulating different quantum excited states.
