Lecture: Breaking up the Whole into Parts: Performance Optimization of Polymer-Clay Nanocomposites
Speaker: Dr. Lu Chunsheng
Venue: Room 211, Architecture Hall, East Campus
Date: Monday, September 10, 2018
Time: 15:30
Lecture Content:
The performance of polymer-clay nanocomposites, with far less inorganic content of layered silicate fillers, are remarkably superior to those of neat polymers or their conventional counterparts. Here, by using a simple renormalization group model, the speaker will show how to optimize the physical and mechanical properties of polymer-clay nanocomposites.
Speaker Introduction:
Dr. Lu Chunsheng, Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics, received his PhD from the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1993 (Supervisor: Academician Bai Yilong), is currently an Associate professor at the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at Curtin University, Australia. He has worked (or visited) to the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tohoku University, Tokyo University, Victoria University of New Zealand, Leoben University of Austria, Brown University of the United States, City University of Hong Kong, University of Sydney, Australia and other domestic and foreign research institutions or colleges and universities. He has long been engaged in research on damage mechanics and related fields, such as micro-damage evolution induced mutation; fractal damage fracture mechanism; optimal statistical intensity distribution; catastrophic damage (such as earthquake) precursor and predictability; super-hard mechanism of nano-coating Failure mode identification and life prediction of thermal barrier coatings; barrier and electrical conductivity of polymer nanocomposites; singular mechanical properties and decay mechanisms of nano and energy materials. He has published more than 140 papers in journals such as Physical Review Letters, Nano Letters, Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, Journal of Geophysical Research, Applied Physics Letters, Acta Materialia, etc. The paper has been cited more than 2,700 times. In 2008 and 2012, he was awarded the National Natural Science Foundation's Overseas and Hong Kong and Macao Scholars Cooperative Research Fund (formerly the National Outstanding Youth Fund Class B) and Hunan Province's “Overseas Famous Teacher” project.
All are welcome.
