Speaker Introduction

Zhao Xiande is professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at CEIBS and a teaching professor of Jingdong Operations and Supply Chain Management. He is also a Director of the Central Europe-ProLogis Supply Chain and Service Innovation Center. Prior to joining CEIBS in January 2013, he was a professor of operations management at the Department of Decision Sciences and Business Economics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2005 to 2012. He was also the Director of the Li & Fung Supply Chain Management and Logistics Institute, Supply Chain Management and Logistics Center.

Professor Zhao’s research areas include operations management and supply chain management. His research focuses on supply chain integration and innovation, web-based services and business model innovation, supply chain finance, digital supply chains, big data-based supply chains, and logistics decision-making optimization. In the past five years, he has published three important monographs: Platform-Based Business Model Innovation and Service Design, Global Supply Chain Quality Management and International Operations Management: Experience in the Global Market (English).

In addition, he has published about 150 papers in academic journals such as Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Consumer Research, Production and Operations Management, European Journal of Operational Research, and International Journal of Production Research. Academic papers and case studies have been frequently cited by the Elsevier Publishing Group as “highly cited scholars in the fields of business, management and accounting” (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). He was awarded more than ten academic honors including the Jack Meredith Best Paper Award (2015) and the China Europe International Business School Excellence Research Award (2015, 2016).

Professor Zhao is currently the founder and honorary chairman of the International Society for Supply Chain and Operations Management (ASCOM). He has served as Vice President of the Asia Pacific Association of Decision Sciences (APDSI), Chairman of ASCOM and President of the International Society for Information and Management Science. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Operations Management and the Decision Sciences Journal and a Senior Editor of Production and Operations Management.

Lecture Content

In the context of the current transformation and upgrading of traditional Chinese industries, the “Made in China” model has encountered unprecedented challenges. To this end, on the basis of in-depth analysis of multiple supply chain and business model innovation transformation and upgrading cases, summarize the approach of transformation and upgrading in different industries such as manufacturing, distribution and retail, and the impact of Internet and ICT technology on industrial transformation and upgrading. A new model of “Made in Internet” is introduced and shared in this field: the choice of suppliers under the “Made in Internet” model and the construction of the supply chain service ecosystem of network platform enterprises.
