YSU organized the 11th National“NXP Cup”Smart Car Race for College Students in North China Division

(News fromNews center)July 19- 21,the 11thCollege Student “NXP Cup” Smart Car Race in North China Division, hosted by Ministry of Education Higher Education Teaching Guidance Committee of Automation Discipline and organized by YSU and NXP Semiconductors, was held in YSU Gymnasium. 1500 students and their advisors presented in 360 teams from 78 universities and colleges in 6 provinces in North China, including Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing institute of technology, Tianjin University, YSU, Taiyuan University of Science and Technology, participated in the race.

Prof. Yongsheng Zhao, YSUVice Presidentand Director of the Organizing Committee of the 11thNational Smart Car Race for College Students in North China Division, addressed the opening ceremony. He said, with smart cars as the research object, this race is a creative scientific competition geared to the needs of college students. It is an exploratory practice and one of the college-level contests initiated by Ministry of Education.

The guideline of this race is to encourage students to participate, to explore, and to pursue excellence. YSU will take this opportunity to promote extracurricular activities, fulfill the potentials of excellent students, bridge the gap between knowledge and competence, theory and practice, thus strengthening the relationship between education and industry.

Ms.Li Ma, University Programs Manager with NXP Semiconductors, introduced the development of NXP Semiconductors. NXP is glad to have a long-term cooperation with Higher Education Teaching Guidance Committee of Automation Discipline attached to Ministry of Education and all the Higher Education Institutes in China. As the world’s largest vehicle semiconductor supplier, NXP Semiconductors will continue to share related technology and experience with teachers and students, inspire the enthusiasm of contestants, and boost the training of innovative students.

Prof. Zhigang Lu, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, YSU, hosted the opening ceremony. Prof. Huaiyu Ning (member of Ministry of Education Higher Education Teaching Guidance Committee of Automation Discipline and Vice President of Wuhan University of Science and Technology), Prof. Xiaoping Ma (member of Ministry of Education Higher Education Teaching Guidance Committee of Automation Discipline and Dean of the School of Information and Electrical Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology), Prof. Kaisheng Huang and Prof. Ming Zeng(Tsinghua University),Peiguo Hou(Party Secretary of the School of Electrical Engineering, YSU), and Hailong Jin(Deputy Director of the Office of Teaching Affairs,YSU) also attended the ceremony.

This contest set 6 categories in two levels. The first level includes photoelectricity group, camera group, electromagnetic balance group, and electric rail group; while the second level includes double car chase group and beacon cross-country car chase group. After two days of intense competition, YSU got 8 of the77firstprizes awarded. Three teams, on behalf of North China Division, will go to the national final. 2500 teams from nearly 500 universities across the country took part in the contest in 8 divisions, competing to enter the final to be held in Central South University from Aug.17 to Aug.20.

Started in 2005, the contest has been held for 11 years consecutively, attracting more than 200000 students.Approved by Ministry of Education, it is now held in 30 provinces and listed one of contests sponsored by the National Science and Technology Teaching Quality and Teaching Reform (Editor: Dongxue Nie)
