YSU President Hongmin Liu Headed a Delegation to UT

【News from News Center】YSU President Hongmin Liu officially headed a delegation to University of Toledo (UT) from Apr. 26thto 30th. The main tasks of the visit include: attending Confucius Institute Annual Council; consulting deep cooperation based on Confucius Institute platform; meeting new UT President Dr. Sharon Gaber and Provost Dr. Andrew Hsu, and consolidating the long-term friendship between UT and YSU.

Confucius Institute Council

Held on the morning of Apr. 27th(local time), theAnnual Confucius Institute Council at UT approved of 2016 work report and annual financial report, and planned 2017 main projects. Sammy Spann, Assistant Provost and Director of UT International Cooperation Division, hosted the conference. Attending the conference were YSU President Liu, Guosheng Teng and Wenli Zhang, members of Confucius Institute Council, John Barrett, member of Confucius Institute Council and professor of UT College of Law, John Elle, Dean of College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Jimmy harden, Director of Association of Sister Cities of Toledo, and Nancy Stambo, Associate Professor of the Judith Herb College of Education at UT.

At the conference, Prof. John Barrett, Director of Confucius Institute Council, spoke highly of the remarkable achievements of Confucius Institute over the past year, pointed out that teacher and student exchanges between YSU and UT was the major achievement of sincere cooperation, and hoped that UT would carry out in-depth cooperation in various fields with YSU in the new year, giving full play to Confucius Institute. YSU President Liu said that, YSU had been focused on the work of Confucius Institute, would take the opportunity of this Council to share the work of the past year and the plan for the coming year, and would communicate for timely solutions to problems in the spirit of sincere cooperation. Besides, YSU, together with the directors and staff of the Council, would make further efforts to make Confucius Institute at UT first-class. On behalf of YSU, President Liu expressed his gratitude to UT, Toledo, and the community for their support to Confucius Institute. Finally, the Council unanimously agreed to extend Assistant Dean Dawei Han’s term of office by one year.

On the afternoon of Apr. 27th, President Liu introduced the location, size, and history of YSU, elaborated on teaching concepts, scientific achievements and international exchanges, and expressed his wishes to enhance scientific cooperation with UT in terms of materials science, parallel robots and other fields. Deans and professors from College of Engineering, the Judith Herb College of Education, and College of Architecture attended the event. They communicated with President Liu, and intended to cooperate with YSU and visit YSU as soon as possible.

Dr. Sharon Gaber, the new President of UT, and Dr. Andrew Hsu, the new Provost, welcomed and had a friendly exchange with President Liu and YSU delegates. President Liu congratulated Dr. Sharon Gaber and Dr. Andrew Hsu for their promotion, and sincerely invited them to visit YSU to further enhance cooperation between YSU and UT in terms of scientific research, student exchange, faculty exchange and faculty training. Dr. Sharon Gaber and Dr. Andrew Hsu cherish the 30-year friendship with YSU, and would communicate with all UT schools to integrate resources for cooperation with YSU.

This visit to UT further consolidated the friendship between YSU and UT, highlighted the role of Confucius Institute, and exerted great influence in deepening pragmatic exchanges and cooperation between both sides.
