[News from News Center] Sponsored by CDIO Engineering Education Union, Engineering Education Committee of China Association of Higher Education, and Regional Collegeand Enterprise Alliance of Higher Engineering Education,and hosted by City College, Zhejiang University, 2017 CDIO Engineering Education Conference was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Provincefrom Apr. 27th to 28th. Themed by CDIO Engineering Education Reform and Development with the Background of Washington Agreement, the conference attracted over 600 representatives from more than 100 universities and enterprises. Led by Vice President Yongsheng Zhao, representatives from Teaching Affairs Office, Higher Education Development Center and YSU colleges and departments attended the conference.
The conference was mainly composed of four parts: Special Reports, Thousand Students Project---Awarding Ceremony for the First Batch of Contracting Enterprises, Seminars, and CDIO New Members Training. Participants listened carefully to special reports and joined in seminars on various topics. On behalf of YSU, Vice President Yongsheng Zhao and Director Hailong Jin attended the Preparatory Meeting of Board Members. Vice President Zhao was invited to make a speech entitled "CDIO from the Perspective of Teaching and Research"; Jin Miao, Assistant Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering, made a report entitled "Comparison between CDIO and Professional Accreditation Standards"; DirectorJin hosted the second seminar.

Since it was introduced to China by Shantou University in 2005,CDIO Engineering Education mode has developed in China for 12 years. In 2008, the Ministry of Education set up “CDIO Engineering Mode Research and Practice Group” and identified the first 18 pilot universities. YSU was one of them and at the same time was identified convener of mechanical engineering group. In Jan., 2016, Shantou University hosted the inaugural meeting of the CDIO Engineering Education Union, which marked that the development of CDIO in China had entered into a new phase. In June, China officially became a member ofWashington Agreement. All the colleges and universities are run in accordance with international standards and practices in engineering education. Up to now, a total of 104 universities have joined CDIO Engineering Education Union. In the past 10 years, YSU has carried out CDIO reform creatively and made great achievements in teaching concepts, teaching approaches, teaching reforms and professional certification.
Under the guidance ofNew Research and Practice of Engineeringin the era of higher education reform, engineering education in China has always kept paces with the times to contribute to higher education. CDIO Engineering Education Union Conference has played a positive role in pushing the innovative development of CDIO engineering education mode in China.
