【News from News Center】Gathered at 3:00 a.m., 1303 YSU volunteers in uniforms headed to their appointed service points at 3:30 a.m. and were ready at 5:00 a.m. on May 14th. Some of them were pulling the banners and waiting for the opening, some forming human walls hand in hand in the middle of the track, some maintaining order on the side of warning line, some preparing for the medical aid and athletes receiving. Xida Li, Secretary of the YSU Youth League Committee, was directing the volunteer work on spot. Besides, deputy secretaries of the Party Committee and secretaries of Youth League Committee of some YSU schools were also participating in the volunteer work with all the student volunteers.

There was 1 volunteer every 100 meters of the 42.159km track for emergencies; a group of volunteers every 2.5km providing athletes materials used in the marathon. Every volunteer was fulfilling their duty all around the whole track. They didn’t leave until the last athlete reached the finishing line, embodying the volunteering spirit of YSU students.

YSU started to recruit volunteers from late April. With the help from YSU Youth League Committee and each YSU school, 1303 volunteers were selected from more than 2400 applicants. All the volunteers were divided into six departments, namely, Department of Competition, Department of Volunteers, Department of Market Development, Department of Medical Aid, Department of City Operations, and Department of Logistics, responsible for the distribution of materials for the volunteers and athletes, placing desks and chairs, pitching tents, putting banners on the track, providing medical aids, counting and issuing work cards, receiving athletes, and recycling after the competition.
It is reported that the Qinhuangdao International Marathon (National Marathon Championships) is hosted by Chinese Athletic Association, Hebei Bureau of Sports and Qinhuangdao People’s Government, and undertaken by Athletic Administration Center of Hebei Bureau of Sports, Qinhuangdao Municipal Bureau of Sports, People’s Government of Haigang District and People’s Government of Beidaihe District. As early as May 6th, YSU organized the volunteers of medical aid to get trained by more than 10 professionals, including: the former doctor for China Women’s Football Team, the health care trainer of Qinhuangdao Red Cross, workers of Blue Sky Rescue and Sunlight Rescue. On May 7th, YSU volunteers participated in the opening ceremony of Young Volunteers Training for 2017 Qinhuangdao International Marathon (National Marathon Championships). There have been over 7300 YSU volunteers since the first Qinhuangdao International Marathon in 2014.
