YSU Held the Summer Camp for Senior High School Students from Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo, USA

[News from News Center] On July 20th, 2017, the opening ceremony of the summer camp for senior high school students from Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo, USA, was held at YSU, involving 18 students from 6 senior high schools in Toledo school districts and neighboring cities as well as 2 chaperons from the University of Toledo.

The camp will last till August 1st. The International Cooperation Division of YSU will provide the campers with various cultural activities, including: exploring the source of the Great Wall; appreciating pottery art in Beidaihe village; painting facial makeups on cucurbits; and enjoying the experience of Chinese paper cutting, Chinese knot, Chinese Kung Fu, Chinese tea ceremony, Chinese calligraphy, and Chinese painting. Through all these cultural activities, the campers will experience the unique charm and appreciate the profundity of Chinese culture.

A brand new mode of homestay is introduced to help the campers fit in with Chinese families, which facilitatescommunication and expressionbetween the campers and the Chinese students or even the Chinese family. 20 families in Qinhuangdao voluntarily share their houses with the campers.

Held annually, the summer camp for American senior high school students, a Sino-US cultural exchange project, was jointly started by the Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo and YSU, and has produced fine social influence in Toledo school districts and neighboring areas. Through Chinese language training, presentation and interaction with Chinese culture, visit to Confucius Institute Headquarters, experience of homestay, the camp aims to improve the communication between Chinese and American students,deepen American high school students’understanding of Chinese language and culture, and stimulate their enthusiasm for learning Chinese, which lays a firm foundation for their becoming international talents to promote Sino-US cultural exchange.
