[News from News Center] On Sep. 17thafternoon, the 8thgeneration racing car “Yanxiang VIII” developed by “Yanxiang Fleet” was launched with the ignition order of YSU Vice President Yan’an Xie at the Activity Center, East Campus. YSU Vice President Sheng Huang, leaders of School of Vehicle and Energy, and the representatives of sponsors attended the ceremony.

Developed by students, “Yanxiang VIII”was painted black and yellow, which makes it cool. The tail of the car was marked with the logo of YSU. During the 2017 competition season, team members completed the independent design and manual processing of “Yanxiang VIII” to prepare for the“Formula Student China” in October. Compared with previous generations, “Yanxiang VIII” is improved in both function and appearance. Except the engine, tires, wheel felloe,compensating gear, ECU andshock absorber, other parts were all designed by students, including the handmade car body.
“Yanxiang VIII” adopts the whole carbon fiber body and air kit to realize its light weight and high response speed. Students put carbon cloth on the model, then let resin fully infiltrate into the carbon fiber, and finally spread demoulding cloth and put guiding network into the vacuum bag. “Yanxiang VIII”adopts Honda CBR600 engine with a strong power so that its acceleration time for 100 km per hour is 3.8 seconds.

Sheng Huang addressed the ceremony. He spoke highly of “Yanxiang VIII”, and encouraged students to join in the design and development of formula racing cars to arouse their interests in professional knowledge, application ability, manipulative ability and scientific and technical innovation competence. Sheng Huang hoped that team members could be calm when facing challenges and realize their dream with their wisdom, passion and strong will in the competition, and make a bigger success.

Yuanbo Qi expressed his congratulations to the release of “Yanxiang VIII” and introduced the Great Wall Company. He hoped that YSU and Great Wall could cooperate more with broaden thoughts, brave attempts and bold creations in terms of personnel training, recruitment, and the integration of learning, research and production.

“Yanxiang Fleet” would participate in 8th“Formula Student China”(FSC) in Xiangyang, Hubei in October. In the former seven competitions, YSU “Yanxiang Fleet” has won several awards. YSU is expecting the team to achieve a great success in October.
