[News from the News Center]March 30-31, the2018 CDIO Engineering Education Alliance Annual Meeting -- the Construction and Implementation of New Engineeringwas held at Chengdu City. The annual meeting was directed by the Department of Higher Education of the MoE, sponsored by the CDIO Engineering Education Alliance and the National Association of Universities and Enterprises Excellence in Engineering Education, organized by Chengdu University of Information Technology and the 2018 CDIO Engineering Education Association. Nearly one thousand representatives of the CDIO Engineering Education Alliance Unit, National Association of Universities and Enterprises Excellence in Engineering Education Unit, and the industry associations attended the meeting. Zhao Yongsheng, Vice President of YSU, among other representatives from YSU attended the meeting. Zhao Yongsheng was invited to present the theme report titled “CPS and CDIO -- Exploration of New Engineering Construction” at the meeting.

On the 30th, at the meeting of the 20th CDIO Engineering Education Alliance (hereafter “the Alliance”), as aguest fromViceChairmanUnit, Zhao Yongsheng on behalf of YSU listened to a summary work report of the Alliance in 2017 and reviewed and voiced his opinion on someworkinvolvingthe amendment of the constitution of the alliance, the application of the relevant units to the alliance, and the work plan for 2018. He on behalf of the coalition also reported to the participating universities on the specific condition and research plans of MoE’s new engineering research and practice project “Methods and Cases for the Training of New Engineering Professionals in Local Colleges and Universities.

The meeting on the 31stinvolved three parts: the keynote report, the theme report, and the seminar salon. Three guests delivered their keynote reports: Yang Qiubo, deputy director of the Department of Higher Education of the MoE, has the theme of “Facing the Future and Taking the Initiative—Taking the New Engineering Construction as the Inspiration to Lead the Transformation of Higher Education”, and Chairman of Gugao (HK) Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Dajiang Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. Li Zexiang, with the title of “Robotics and Engineering Education Reform—the Approach to Cultivation of Innovative Talents”, the former executive Vice President of Pecking University, Wang Yiqiu, made a keynote speech titled “From Applied Science to New Engineering”.

In the salon session, Gu Peihua, Executive President of Shantou University, Zhou Dingwen, party secretary of the China Nuclear Power Research & Design Institute, Lu Xiaohua, Chief Engineer of the Shenzhen Urban Public Security Research Institute, He Jianxin, Vice President of Chengdu University of Information Technology, and served as guests and delegates held dialogues and exchanges on the theme of “New Engineering Construction”.

The construction of new engineering is the transformation of engineering education for the fourth industrial revolution. It is an effective carrier and motivation for higher engineering education and a major opportunity for the transformation and development of local universities. After more than ten years of practice and development in China, the CDIO engineering education model has become an important means of advancing domestic advanced engineering education reform. It has been widely praised by parties involved in engineering education reform. It also has provided some meaningful references for the exploration and practice of new engineering construction. This meeting elaborated the new connotation of the CDIO under the background of the new engineering and confirmed the new task of the CDIO in the construction of new engineering.
