[News from the News Center] At 9:00, Apr. 21st, YSU held the opening ceremony of the 5thReading Festival activities at the square in front of the library with the 23rdWorld Book and Copyright Day and the 18thWorld Intellectual Property Day approaching. More than 200 teachers and students from all the schools, some associations and related offices attended the ceremony. Vice President Sheng Wanyu was invited to give a speech and some YSU leaders were also invited to the ceremony including, Li Xida, Secretary of Communist Youth League of YSU Committee, Chen Yu, President of YSU Press, Wang Yuehua, Vice Director of Center of Technology Transfer, and Chan Jia, Vice Director of Student Affairs Office, Chang Xin, Deputy Dean of Liren College. Besides, leaders and staff of YSU library were present. The ceremony was hosted by Qu Xiaoyang, Party Secretary of YSU library branch.

Sheng Wanyu delivered a speech and pointed out that YSU Reading Festival has been held for five consecutive years, and it has become an effective carrier of campus reading promotion by exerting the influence and inspiring force of the major activities. YSU has organized constant and normal reading activities with news forms. She stressed that the promotion and popularization of intellectual property was integrated into the Reading Festival activities, which aims to raise teacher and students’ awareness of protecting intellectual property rights and the responsibility and obligation on them, so that we can be concentrated on work, thirst for knowledge, and maintain the spirit of reform and forge ahead with determination to transform our fantastic ideas into an inexhaustible impetus to promote economic, social and cultural development. She said YSU always adheres to the principle that is people-oriented with teachers and students as the center, and constantly meet the needs of teachers and students. Sheng hopes that the whole school can act together to listen to the voice of the book, to awaken the strength of knowledge, to appreciate the charm of reading, for thinking connects thousands of years and readingreaches thousands of miles.
At the ceremony, Li Xida and Chen Yu announced the lists of “2017 Reading Star” and “2017 Book Review Star” respectively, some guests and leaders granted certificates and prizes to those outstanding readers. Wang Shuai, President of the YSU Student Union, put forward a proposal for all the students. He advocated that students should keep reading as a habit, select good books and let good gooks guide their practice. Li Huijian, Director of YSU library briefly introduced the theme and activities of this year, and announced that the 5thReading Festival activities were officially launched. The main activities of this year’s Reading Festival include: annual “Data & Impression” of YSU library, reading promotion and training lectures, lectures on intellectual property rights.
After the ceremony, guests and readers came into the library to visit the experiencing area for new equipment and the traditional culture pavilion at the hall on the first floor. Readers were attracted by each project displayed and they were curious to experience, which added a lively atmosphere and a fascinating ambience to the development of the Reading Festival activities.
