YSU teachers and students awarded in the second ACM Turing Celebration Conference-China

[News from the news center] From May 19 to 20, the second ACM China Turing Conference (ACM TURC 2018) was held in Shanghai. YSU ten teachers and doctoral students attended the conference. As recommended by ACM Qinhuangdao Branch and reviewed by the ACM China Council, young teachers Peng Xiuping and Yang Xian from YSU School of Information Science and Engineering were awarded ACM China Star Award (sub-council). Shi Baoshun (Supervisor: Professor Lian Qiusheng), Zhao Shuhuan (Supervisor: Professor Hu Zhengping) won ACM China Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award (sub-council). In addition, recommended by the ACM Xi’an sub-council, Liu Tiange from YSU School of Information Science and Engineering won the ACM China Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award (sub-council).

This top-level event titled “Leading Artificial Intelligence to Creating Unlimited Potential,” invited a number of international academic masters, including Turing Award winners, and leading figures in domestic technology innovation. These experts have created a high-level academic communication platform in the field of “Artificial Intelligence”. YSU students and teachers attended broadened their horizons and learned substantially from the giants of science and technology, which stimulated their enthusiasm for participation in scientific research. It also promoted the popularity of YSU and the academic influence of YSU’s Computer Science.

The Turing Award was established by the International Computer Association (ACM) in 1966 and mainly rewards individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the computer industry. Due to the extremely high judging requirements of the award and the extremely rigorous review process, it has become the most prestigious and noble prize in the computer industry, and thus is known as the "Nobel Prize in Computer Science." The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the world's largest professional academic organization in the computer field. Since the ACM China Council was officially established in 2010, 20 branches have been established successively. The ACM Qinhuangdao branch was officially established in July 2016 and is responsible for the membership activities in Hebei Province. The ACM China Rising Star Award and the ACM China Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award are proposed to award outstanding young scholars who have engaged in the computer and/or communications and related fields. The award has been a great success since its establishment. It has attracted the attention of many domestic and foreign scholars, and has aroused great interests from the academic and the industrial communities.
