[News from the news center] On May 18,YSU holds the first “2018 Hebei Province Graduate Mathematical Modeling Contest”. The competition aims to stimulate the innovative vitality and interest of graduate students, improve the overall ability of graduate students to establish mathematical models and use Internet information technology to solve practical problems, broaden their horizons of knowledge, cultivate innovative spirit and sense of teamwork, and promote exchanges and cooperation among graduate students. The competition was sponsored by the Education Department of Hebei Province and organized by YSU.
With the joint efforts of the Graduate School and the School of Sciences, the preparation of this competition lasts three months. An organizing committee was established to draft the implementation plan for the “2018 Hebei Province Graduate Mathematical Modeling Contest”. From April, the organizing committee launched a series of propaganda campaigns. On May 10, YSU received registrations from 19 universities of Hebei Province and 13 universities national wide, such as Northwestern Polytechnical University, China Metric University, Hangzhou Normal University from 11 provinces. A total of 515 teams (481 teams from Hebei Province and 34 teams from other 11 provinces) and 1,545 graduate students registered the competition.
May 18, at 8:00 am, the contest questions were officially released, and May 22, at 8:00 am the contest paper submission was due. From May 25 to 28, 445 papers submitted were reviewed by 20 experts from various universities and the results of the review were reported to the Provincial Department of Education. After the final review completed at provincial level, the result and awards will be announced, which will be followed by the prize awarding ceremony at YSU in mid-June.

Competition in process
The competition was organized for the first time in Hebei Province and received strong support from the universities outside the province. This competition is a great opportunity for universities to train mathematics modeling contest teams. At the same time, this competition promoted the influence of the postgraduate mathematical modeling contest in our province, and facilitated the communication between universities national wide.
