[News from the News Center] Several days ago, four YSU teams guided by Guo Dongliang, Zhao Fengda, Pei Huan from Department of Software Engineering under School of Information Science and Engineering, and Tong Liangang from Information Technology Center respectively, won second prizes in the 2018 ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC 18 for short), which was a breakthrough after last year when YSU participated in ASC 17 for the first time. Besides, teams from University of Warsaw, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Southern University of Science and Technology, Hunan University and University of Science & Technology Beijing also won second prizes, and Tsinghua University won a second consecutive championship.
YSU teams performed well and achieved excellent results with the CPU high performance cluster from YSU Supercomputer Center and School of Information Science and Engineering.

ASC 18 attracted more than 300 teams from over 100 universities and colleges covering 5 continents including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, National University of Defense Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, Russian St. Petersburg University, and American Texas A&M University.
ASC, as the world’s largest competition, which has the most participants, is known as the world’s three supercomputer competitions together with the German ISC, and the American SC. ASC aims to promote exchange and training of young talents among countries and regions, to enhance the application, research and development of supercomputer, and improve innovation in science, technology and industry.
