11 Oct , 2018

[News from the News Center] On October 2, local time, the Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo held a Mid-Autumn-themed Chinese cultural experiencing activity at the University of Toledo Activity Center. Teachers and students from the University of Toledo and the nearby primary and secondary schools participated in the event.

The Chinese teachers and American students are in the activity.

The event aims to offer the opportunity for local students to hand-made Chinese lanterns, which asks participants to make a lantern with some Chinese elements such as Chinese knots, calligraphy cards and paper-cut works. At the event site, each participant experienced how to make the Chinese knot, calligraphy card and paper-cutting respectively. They used their own hand-made lantern handles and calligraphy cards as the main body of tassels and paper-cut works to complete the work for Mid-Autumn Festival.

The students are learning to write Chinese characters.

At the same time, the site also held a series of activities such as tea experience, Chinese traditional costume appreciation and try-on, and Mid-Autumn cultural background introduction. It provided Chinese food such as moon cakes, allowing participants to enjoy the fun of handmade cultural works, taste Mid-Autumn moon cakes, and enjoy Mid-Autumn Festival stories, which gave them a more comprehensive and in-depth experience of the Mid-Autumn Festival customs and Chinese culture.

Among the traditional Chinese festivals, the Mid-Autumn Festival is second only to the Spring Festival in the United States. Organizing Mid-Autumn Festival activities to attract the public to participate in cultural experiences is an important channel for spreading Chinese culture. The cultural experience event is one of the 2018 Mid-Autumn Festival activities of the Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo. The Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo will also host other cultural experience activities at three different places, such as at the University of Toledo Campus, Jackson College, and North Central State College.
