[News from the News Center] From October 20-21, the 6th2018 North ChinaFive-Province (City, Autonomous Region) College Student Robot Competition was held at YSUGymnasium, East Campus. The competition was sponsored by Hebei Education Department and organized by YSU. Gao Ming, Deputy Director of Higher Education Division of Hebei Education Department, and Piao Songhao, Head of the Multi-Agent Robotics Research Center of the School of Computer Science, Harbin Institute of Technology, and YSU vice president Zhao Yongsheng attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was hosted by Jin Hailong, Director of the YSU Academic Affairs Office.

This competition is the second time that our province and YSU held a college/university robot competition. With the theme of “Intelligence and Innovation”, the competition aims to promote the exchange and cooperation between robot research teams among universities. The competition builds an interdisciplinary platform for robotics innovation, communication and improvement, and a comprehensive use of theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems. It has cultivated students' sense of independent innovation, practical ability and teamwork spirit.
The competition attracted a total of 400 contestants, 95 teams from 22 universities in Hebei province including Yanshan University, North China Electric Power University, Shijiazhuang Railway University, Hebei Normal University, Hebei University of Science and Technology, Hebei Agricultural University, Hebei University of Geosciences, etc.

The competition is full of fun and challenges, including robot creative design competition, robot martial arts competition, dance robot competition, humanoid robot competitive sports (point penalty, golf, track and field, shooting), service robot challenge among other competitions. The competition eventually produced 13 First Prizes, 25 Second Prizes and 46 Third Prizes. They will be recommended to participate in the finals of the 2018 North China Five-Province(City, Autonomous Region) Robotics Competition. This competition had gained a wide range of supports from YSU schools and related functional departments, which was highly praised by contestants and teams.
