[News from the News Center] In 2018, the University Robotics Competition of the five provinces (cities, autonomous regions) in North China was successfully held at Beijing University of Information Science and Technology from November 9-10. The competition attracted more than 660 teams from 86 universities and colleges, a total of 2000 teachers and students participated in this competition. They are from Peking University, Tianjin University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing Institute of Technology, North China Electric Power University, Communication University of China, and Taiwan Jianguo University of Science and Technology among others.
After fierce competition, YSU the teams consisting of undergraduate and postgraduate students in software engineering, computer and electronic information engineering won 13 prizes, including 5 first prizes, 3 second prizes and 5 third prizes. In addition, Wu Peiliang was awarded the Excellent Instructor, and YSU won the Outstanding Organization Award.

The University Robotics Competition of the five provinces (cities, autonomous regions) in North China was jointly sponsored by the Education Committee of the five provinces of North China and undertaken by Beijing Information Science and Technology University. Since its first competition in 2013, the competition has focused on the theme of “Smart, Innovation and Service”, adhering to the tradition of “Meeting social needs, Featuring Connotation, and Focusing on Education”, which stimulates college students’ enthusiasm for research and development of robotics and encouraging college students to apply the theoretical knowledge to engineering practice. It strengthens the innovation and applicability of robotic products, promoting the combination of college students’ scientific and technological works and market applications. The competition is beneficial for developing students’ scientific research skills, and their innovative ability, which are contributing to the promotion of the reform of the education mode in colleges and universities.
YSU Intelligent Robot Research Laboratory of School of Information Science and Engineering was founded in 2002. In recent years, under the guidance of Professor Kong Lingfu and Professor Zhao Fengda, the research center has focused on new trends such as artificial intelligence and robots, and explored innovative talent training models in responding to social and national strategic needs. After years of practice, the research laboratory has made breakthroughs in the vision, strategy, and architecture of wheeled soccer robots and humanoid robots, which have overcome many technical problems such as robot development, multi-agent coordination, and duplex communication. Some core research projects have been funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Hebei Province, and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation.
Through many competitions, we have conducted various exchanges with other universities, and proved our strength. We have been highly appraised and strongly affirmed by many universities, which indicates YSU’s domestic leading position in some of the research filed.
