The Directors from Academic Affairs Office and the School of Arts and Design delivered speeches in the opening ceremony respectively. They expressed their hopes in cultivating students to discover beauty, appreciate beauty, create beauty, and convey the quality of aesthetic quality. They showed their appreciation to teachers of the “AkabellaExperience Course” and “Vocal Performance Course”. The concert consisted of 19 programs, featuring vocal performances such as lyrical solo singers, passionate chorus, and Akabella’s multi-forms performance. This is the first time for YSU to hold this performance and concert. This is also a stage for ordinary students to realize the stage dream.
Hosted by the Academic Affairs Office, and organized by the School of Arts and Design, the concert provides a stage for 109 students from 10 schools -- the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, and the School of Economics and Management. “Akabella Experience Course” and “Vocal Performance Course” are general music education courses aiming to improve students’ multi-faceted musical ability and students’ music literacy.
General education is a key factor in university education. It is an important aspect related to the connotative development of higher education. YSU has always attached great importance to the cultivation of students’ comprehensive quality. In recent years, it has vigorously promoted the reform of general education and teaching and released the related documents to ensure the implementation of the general requirements and assessment methods for some elective courses. As a long-term work, the reform project has increased teacher training and funding. At present, YSU has established “social science”, “culture and art”, “science and technology”, “mathematics and logic” the five categories of general education curriculum systems. In the future, YSU will further promote the reform of general education and teaching in order to make great progress in terms of curriculum construction level, teaching effect, teacher team building, and improvement of general education system.
