[News from the News Center] From May 12-15, the major--Building Environment and Energy Engineering (BEEE)--of YSU School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics received the first inspection of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), which marks the 11thengineering majors that have been accredited (assessed).

Entrusted by the Higher Education Evaluation Committee of the MOHURD, the expert groupwith Prof. Zhang Xu from Tongji University as its head conducted a three-day on-site inspection of BEEAE. On the morning of May 13, the accreditation report meeting was held at the first meeting room of the Century Building. All members of the expert group, Zhao Yongsheng, YSU Vice President, leaders of YSU and the School, and teachers of related major attended the meeting. Zhang Xu introduced the purpose andrequirements of this accreditation and members of the group. Zhao Yongsheng extended a warm welcome to the expert group and introduced the overall situation of the university and the undergraduate teaching and education. Du Guojun, Dean of School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, and Hu Jianjun, vice director of the Department of BEEAE, reported on the education of the university and the School, with focus on the characteristics and the training of personnel in accordance with the accreditation standards. Others participants also answered questions from the expert group on the credits requirement, the implementation of the OBE education concept and the construction of the teaching staff.
After the report meeting, the expert group paid field visit to physics laboratory, rolling center, chemistry laboratory, mechanics laboratory and other professional laboratory, listened to 4 courses and observed the “YSU HVAC Application Design Competition”. Besides, they held symposium with teachers and students, where they conducted in-depth exchanges with graduates, students, and teachers. By exchanging andlooking through the teaching materials anddocuments, they better understood the education and other information of BEEE.
On the morning of May 15, the expert group gave feedback and comments on the inspection. On behalf of the expert group, Zhang Xu read out the accreditation report. Zhang introduced the overall result, and reported the accreditation of the professional teaching conditions, teaching management, student training and school-running characteristics. Furthermore, he put forward suggestions for further strengthening the construction of the teaching staff, optimizing the curriculum system, and improving the laboratory construction. The leaders and teachers of YSU listened carefully to the feedback from the expert group, and Du Guojun made a commitment on behalf of the School. Zhao Yongsheng express thanks to the expert group and emphasized that the university, the school and the department would carefully analyze and follow the suggestionsand feedbackof the experts, and try their best to get improved.
Up until now, two majors of School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics havebeen accredited (assessed): Civil Engineering, and BEEE. The School has attached great importance to teaching and education over the years, and has solidly promoted teaching reforms,which laid a good foundation for the accreditation (assessment). Before the experts came to YSU, the School and the department prepared a lot in detail.
