YSU hostS the Summer Camp for UT Confucius Institute, USA

[News from the New] From May 17-27, UT Confucius Institute Summer Camp for College Students at the University of Toledo was held in our school. Ten campers from the Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo participated in summer camp related exchanges. The summer camp was led by Prof. Noela Haughton and Prof.Marcella Kehus of the University of Toledo in Education. The students who participated in the program were undergraduate, master and doctoral students majoring in education at the University of Toledo.

The International Cooperation Office arranged a variety of activities for the summer camp, including a comprehensive English class for foreign language teachers and an English writing class for American teachers, and face-to-face exchanges with teachers and students of the Foreign Languages Institute; visit Qinhuangdao Shiyan Middle School, Jianshe Primary School and Haibei Road Primary School, observe mathematics, English and music classroom teaching, participate in the classroom interaction of students, watch the school’s characteristic cultural performances; visit the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban Office, appreciate the distinctive culture of Beijing and Qinhuangdao.

Through the Chinese language learning, cultural activities, classroom observation, and classroom interaction between Chinese and American students, the project aims to develop students’ overall ability in Eastern and Western cultures and explore Sino-US aspects of teaching methods, teaching evaluation and leadership policies and practices. The similarities and differences existing in these two cultures enable students to fully understand cultural differences, learn cross-cultural exchanges, master the assessment methods of international competitiveness development and the classification of disciplines in a global perspective, and assume the social responsibilities of future educators in the international perspective. The summer camp is funded by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/National Hanban, and is organized by Yanshan University and the Confucius Institute at the University of Toledo.
