[News from the News Center] On June 5, the awarding conference of the 2nd Graduate Mathematical Modeling Competition of Hebei Province in 2019 was held at YSU. Zhao Qingyun, Secretary General and Office Director of Hebei Provincial People’s Government, Deputy Director Ji Jialin, YSU Vice President Ren Jiadong, Liu Junqi, Editor of the Journal “Academic Degrees and Graduate Education”, and Zhang Guangzhi, the representative from the contest sponsor company Beijing Jindian Investment Management Co., Ltd. Among the 100 representatives of teachers and award-winning graduate students from 46 institutions attended the meeting. The awarding ceremony was hosted by Ji Jialin, Deputy Director of the Provincial Degree Office.

The competition selected 38 first prizes, 73 second prizes, 181 third prizes, 36 excellent instructor awards and 42 outstanding organization awards. Among the 350 teams participating in the competition, 9 were awarded first prize, 23 second prizes, 63 third prizes, 7 excellent instructor awards, and 1 outstanding organization award.

At the awarding ceremony, Ren Jiadong delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the organizer. Guan Yingping, Dean of the Yanshan University Graduate School, reported on the pre-competition work and announced the winners. Liu Junqi introduced the Journal “Academic Degrees and Graduate Education”, and Zhang Guangzhi introduced the situation of Beijing Jindian Investment Management Co., Ltd. Zhao Qingyun spoke at the meeting and pointed out that the successful holding of the second postgraduate mathematical modeling competition in Hebei Province has been demonstrating the postgraduate’s achievements in our province.

Hebei Graduate Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, as one of the theme competitions of “Hebei Province Graduate Innovation Practice Series Competition”, is a competition of science and technology for applied research in postgraduate students. The purpose is to stimulate the innovation vitality and interest of the graduate students. By establishing mathematical models and using computers to solve practical problems, graduate students cultivate the spirit of innovation and teamwork, which promoted the reform of postgraduate education in Hebei Province. By holding this competition, the universities in our province have educated the graduate mathematics modeling competition team, promoted exchanges and cooperation between universities, research institutes and enterprises in and outside the province, and expanded the influence of postgraduate education in our province.

The competition was sponsored by the Hebei Provincial Department of Education, organized by Yanshan University, co-organized by the Hebei Provincial Engineering Graduate Education Steering Committee, supported by the journal of “Academic Degrees and Graduate Education” and sponsored by Beijing Jindian Investment Management Co., Ltd. The competition received positive responses from Beijing Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Central South University and universities from other provinces. A total of 1,173 teams and 3,519 graduate students from 46 educational institutions in 17 provinces and municipalities participated in the competition. Among them, there are 924 teams and 2,772 graduate students from 19 universities in the province. 249 teams and 747 graduate students from 27 universities in 16 other provinces and municipalities directly participate in the competition. Among the 46 educational institutions, 3 are “world-class universities” and 9 are “world-class disciplines”, which makes this event influential in postgraduate students in our country.
