[News from the News Center] From June 29-30, YSU’s first Asian Youth Meta-stable Materials Forum and the First Youth Alumni Science and Technology Forum were held in the fourth teaching building of YSU, East Campus. There are 2 international universities from Hiroshima University, Japan, and more than more than 80 alumni experts and scholars from 60 universities and research institutes across the country attended the forum. Zhao Xianfeng, YSU Secretary of the Party Committee, attended the welcoming ceremony of the forum. Zhao Dingxuan, YSU President, and Ren Jiadong, YSU Vice President, attended the opening ceremony. YSU Alumni Work Office and some alumni working in QHD and some teachers and students attended the forum. The forum was hosted bySchool of Materials Science and Engineeringand State Key Laboratory of Meta-stable Materials Science and Technology. The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Wang Liping, Party Secretary of the School of Materials Science and Engineering.

At the welcoming ceremony, Zhao Xianfeng on behalf of our university expressed warm welcome to the senior leadership, teachers and alumni who participated in the forum. He reviewed YSU’s two relocations and three hardships struggles and strongly affirmed the rapid development of theSchool of Materials Science and Engineeringin recent years. He emphasized that alumni are the university’s business card and is the most valuable resource of our university. He hopes that the alumni will continue to care for and support the development of the alma mater, and help the university realize the “Double First-class” and “Distinctive specialty, domestic first-class, world-renowned research universities” development goals. Next year is YSU’s the 100th anniversary of original establishment, and 60thanniversary of independent operation. He sincerely invites alumni to return to their alma mater to share the happiness and pride.

He introduced the basic situation, development goals and major achievements of our university to the alumni experts and scholars. At the meeting, Wang Limin, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, introduced the development of the school, teaching staff development, scientific research, and internationalization construction, school culture and future development planning. Liu Riping, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials, introduced the construction process, research direction, major achievements of the State Key Laboratory. Tian Yongjun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, gave a special academic report entitled “Progress and Prospects ofnano-structured Super-hard Materials”. Tian Yongjun gave a detailed introduction to the research progress of nano-structured super-hard materials, and highlighted the future development of ultra-high pressure technology in materials physics and chemistry.

The forum had invited 29 alumni experts and scholars from well-known universities and research institutes to make brilliant and special reports on their respective research fields.
