[News from the News Center] On Nov. 10, theannual conferenceChinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong. “Research on key process of annealing strip steel and integrated quality control and application of its product” led by YSU Prof. Bai Zhenhuawins the first prize of 2019 China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award.
Atotal of 365 projects won awards. Among them, 2 were grand prizes, 37 first prizes, 126 second prizes, and 200 third prizes. Besides, the project “technology and application of satellite-borne large-diameter ultra-high-precision metal mesh antenna” cooperated by YSU and Xi’an Space Radio Technology Research Institute won the second prize.

China is rich in steel resources, but is not thetop of the steel industry. Despite the excessivecapacity ofsteel production, the demand for high-end stripsare still mostly met by imports. The quality control of the annealing is one of the key problems encountered in high-end strip production. Aiming at the problem, Prof. Bai Zhenhua and his team put forward a new concept of the deviation factor, the buckling index, the shape of the inner plate and the shape of the outer plate of the unit. They optimized the technology in continuous annealing furnace targeting at quality control and the method of furnace loading and bonding defect treatment of cover and discharge unit. The key technologies in thisproject are made in China, and has reached the advanced level in the world. This projectowns independent intellectual property rights and has been authorized to be applied in many patents, and it has been published in many academic papers in core journals at home and abroad, some of which have been included in SCI and EI. Besides, the results of the project have been promoted and applied to Baosteel Co., Ltd., Shandong Guanzhou Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Nine Sky Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., bringingremarkableachievements and economic benefits. Prof. Bai’s research is of great significance to enhance the market competitiveness of strip products and reduce costs and energy consumption.
More than 800 people attended the CMESannual conference, including leaders of China Machinery Industry Federation and CMES,as well as heads of CMESbranches, provincial and municipal societies, CMESmembers, science and technology workers and representatives of the winners. At the conference, the awarding ceremonywas held for the 2019 China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award and the 2019 CMES Science and Technology Award (Science and Technology Achievement Award, Youth Science and Technology Achievement Award, Excellent Paper Award).
