Discipline Building and Research Achievements

The SFS has been developing a system of disciplines which features teaching and research that focuses on linguistics, encouraging interdisciplinary and characteristic research, developing research teams in linguistics, literature, translation, cross-cultural communication, teaching theory and practice. By takingadvantages ofthe unique geographicallocationand thesupportive policy of theBeijing-Tianjin-Hebei region’s coordinated development, SFSis committed tocultivating students in responding to country’s development through the fruits of its research and the skills of its graduates.

The SFShas beenpreparing students for a changing future, using a framework of engagement that involves distinctive study offerings and ideal qualifications.

According to Cuaa.Net’s “2020 Chinese University Rankings-A Guide for Applicants of College Entrance Examination”, the English Language major offered by the SFS was rated as a five-star major.This rating was a historic breakthrough for the English Language major, and also marks a new level that the SFS has achieved in discipline building.Thanks to collaborative hard work, the SFS has received accreditation from the Chinese education authority for its discipline evaluation in 2016 and its degree assessment in 2018 respectively. Currently, the SFS hasstrengths ina number of disciplines including Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Foreign Literature, Cross-cultural Communication, Comparative Literature, and Translation Studies.

TheSFSfaculty members have published 240 academic papers, including 4 SCIand A&HCI indexed papers, 9 SSCI-indexed, 27 CSSCI-indexed, 14 EI-indexed, SCD-indexed papers, among others. Meanwhile, 23 monographs, translations, edited books were published with prestigious publishers. SFS staffhas undertaken130 research projects, including 3 national-level projects, 40 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and other 87 projects. In the past five years, the SFS has won 9 research awards at different levels, as well as 13 patents.
