[News from News Center] 4thForum for Young Scientists in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, initiated by Technology Management Departments of this region, was held by YSU at BTG-Jinglun Hotel in Qinhuangdao on August 22nd. It was co-hosted by Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Department, Hebei Provincial Natural Science Foundation Commission, Beijing Science and Technology Commission, Beijing Natural Science Foundation Commission and Tianjin Science and Technology Commission. Officials in charge of natural science foundation in this region and over 300 young scientists from 30 universities attended the forum.

The opening ceremony of the forum was hosted by Zhiguo Li, Director of Hebei Provincial Natural Science Committee. President Hongmin Liu, on behalf of YSU, extended warm welcome and sincere greetings to the participants. He said that in the context ofcoordinateddevelopment, the joint organization of the forum for young scientists in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region had great significance on strengthening academic exchanges, promoting affection and friendship, and promoting collaborative innovation.

Vice Mayor Tielin Yang, on behalf of Qinhuangdao, delivered a welcome speech, and introduced the marine resources and coastal industrial development. Besides, he also expressed his wishes that participants provide suggestions for the construction of Qinhuangdao towards a national model city of marine economy innovation and development.

Li Zhiguo, on behalf of Deputy Director of Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Department Yuming Guo, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He said that the forum was an important step to implementFramework Agreement on Collaborative Development Strategy Research and Basic Research Cooperation in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Regionjointly signed by Beijing Science and Technology Commission, Tianjin Science and Technology Commission and Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Department in August 2014. Besides, the forum, a fruitful result of cooperation, has been successfully held for three sessions, which exerted positive influence on promoting academic exchanges, mutual cooperation, innovation and development among young scientists from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.

Themed with "Marine Science and the Future", this forum set up four branch venues: intelligent equipment andthe ocean, information science and the ocean, environment & chemical industry and the ocean, life medicine and the ocean; and also a total of 15 topics and 26 academic reports. Academician Jingshan Jiang, Academician Jianquan Yao (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Prof. Feng Gao (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), and Dr. Junchao Cheng (CSIC System Engineering Research Institute), delivered keynote speeches for the general assembly which was hosted YSU Vice President Xiangdong Kong. Starting from different detection requirements from the surface to the bottom, Jingshan Jiang gave a comprehensive summary of the theories and methods of ocean remote sensing and imaging, and emphatically introduced the research progress and achievements of China microwave remote sensing information transmission and processing and other aspects of the application. Jianquan Yao explained the significance of the space - sky - earth - sea integration network architecture and the construction of wisdom marine Internet to young researchers with vivid and sincere words. He also suggested that Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei collaboratively implement instructions of General Secretary Xi, which were "caring for the ocean, understanding the ocean, managing the ocean”, and make a difference in the field of ocean engineering. Feng Gao introduced the principle and equipment of composite electricity generation by using integrated sea wave and wind with high power, and suggested that young scientists should face the demand and be creative in scientific research. Junchao Cheng, based on the national marine development strategy, introduced in detail the background, demand, value, system framework and the progress of the "wisdom ocean" project.In the four branch venues, young scientists from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei discussed the latest research progress, including: "marine engineering intelligent equipment and equipment intelligence", "the latest technology of underwater detection and communication", "marine environment, chemical industry and ecological management", and "deep sea biology and marine medicine".

All previous forums, including this, unanimously recognized by young scientists and managers of scientific and technological circles, have formed a good platform for basic research exchanges and cooperation among Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.
