YSU Hosts the “Floral Whisper along the Silk Road: 2023 First Academic Invitation Letter for Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Masters Exhibition"

In order to deepen our understanding and implementation of the important speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping on cultural inheritance and development, and to promote the outstanding traditional Chinese culture, as well as to provide a new platform for the exhibition and promotion of Chinese calligraphy and painting art, “Floral Whisper along the Silk Road: 2023 First Academic Invitation Letter for Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Masters Exhibition" opened on September 25 at the Northeast Asia Silk Road Civilization Museum, Yanshan University (YSU).

Xie Yan'an, Deputy Secretary of the CPC YSU Committee; Yang Changxin, former member of the standing committee of the CPC Qinhuangdao Municipal Committee and Director of the Propaganda Department; Sun Shihui, Vice Chairman of the Qinhuangdao Federation of Literary & Art Circles; Zheng Shanlu, Artist from the Ethnic Painting Academy of Cultural Palace of Nationalities and National First-Class Artist; Han Feng, former Vice Chairman of the Hebei Artists Association and National First-Class Artist; Wu Jianke, Creative Officer of the Political Department of the People's Liberation Army Navy; Zhang Yusheng, Chairman of the Hengshui Artists Association and National First-Class Artist; Qiao Haiguang, Vice Chairman of the Qinhuangdao Federation of Literary & Art Circles, Chairman of the Qinhuangdao Calligraphers Association, and Director of the Qinhuangdao Painting and Calligraphy Institute; Song Hongjun, Vice Chairman of the Qinhuangdao Federation of Literary & Art Circles and Chairman of the Qinhuangdao Artists Association; as well as representatives from the Qinhuangdao Artists Association and the Qinhuangdao Calligraphers Association, along with leaders from various relevant schools and functional units of the university, attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhao Lin, Deputy Dean of the School of Arts and Design at YSU.

In his speech, Xie Yan'an stated that YSU has always attached great importance to the development of humanities and social sciences, even though it has its origins in engineering. It emphasizes the use of culture to convey principles and values, to nurture and shape the soul, to enlighten and enrich the mind, and to create an atmosphere and set a trend. The aim of this art exhibition is to deeply study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important discourse on education and cultural development, vigorously promote the comprehensive integration of excellent Chinese traditional culture into higher education, continually innovate the concept, forms, and methods of inheriting excellent Chinese traditional culture in universities in the new era, enhance the cultural vitality of campuses, and create an elegant, aesthetically pleasing, and vibrant artistic and cultural atmosphere.

In his speech, Sun Shihui expressed that this cultural feast has played a role in promoting the cultural development of Qinhuangdao.

Song Hongjun provides an academic introduction to the exhibition

As the academic host of this invitation exhibition, Song Hongjun first interpreted the academic background of the exhibition theme. He stated that Qinhuangdao Artists Association, as a local artists association, holds the responsibility to continuously explore how traditional calligraphy and painting art and aesthetic education can reach every household and enter campuses.

Deng Shuping, Director of the Northeast Asia Silk Road Civilization Museum at YSU, officially announced the commencement of the “Floral Whisper along the Silk Road: 2023 First Academic Invitation Letter for Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Masters Exhibition". The invited leaders, guests, and faculty and students in attendance visited the art exhibition and the Northeast Asia Silk Road Civilization Museum.

The exhibition, which began on September 25 and continues until October 20, features a total of 55 works of art with high artistic value. The purpose of this invitation exhibition is to guide students to consciously inherit excellent traditional Chinese culture, actively create a campus culture with Chinese cultural heritage, and effectively enhance their aesthetic and humanistic qualities. In recent years, YSU has consistently regarded the education of excellent traditional Chinese culture as an essential component of its fundamental mission to cultivate students' moral character and promote the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture. This effort aims to nurture students' broad historical perspectives, confident national sentiments, and resilient personal character.

Organizations such as the Hebei Artists Association, the Qinhuangdao Federation of Literary & Art Circles, and the Qinhuangdao Artists Association provided strong support to this invitation exhibition. In August of this year, the Qinhuangdao Federation of Literary & Art Circles' Creative Research Base was established at the Northeast Asia Silk Road Civilization Museum of YSU, adding vibrancy to its campus cultural development.

It is reported that the “Floral Whisper along the Silk Road: 2023 First Academic Invitation Letter for Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Masters Exhibition" is planned by Deng Shuping, Director of the Northeast Asia Silk Road Civilization Museum of YSU. The event is organized by YSU and the Qinhuangdao Federation of Literary & Art Circles, co-hosted by the Northeast Asia Silk Road Civilization Museum of YSU and the Qinhuangdao Artists Association, and co-sponsored by various units including the Office of Social Sciences, the Office of International Cooperation, the Office of Student Affairs, the Communist Youth League Committee, the School of Arts and Design, and the Secretariat of the Belt and Road Cultural Heritage Global Alliance at YSU.
