OI China Underwater Robot Competition is an international competition for college students with Oceanology International China 2017, the top exhibition for marine science and technology worldwide, as its platform. Since the year of 2013, this annual competition has successfully held 4 sessions. Through organizing the college students at domestic and overseas to compete in the research and development of underwater robot, the competition aims to improve the students’ capability and level of technical innovation for underwater robot, so as to make a contribution to nurturing the future development of marine science and technology in China.
Themed by “Innovative Design”, the 5thcompetition focuses on innovation and encourages the team to take the rationality and the feasibility as the premise, carry on the thought innovation or the principle innovation, and propose the innovative underwater robot design. The section of competition on the spot was added for the first time, achieving the transformation of the works from the simple “design” competition to “design and production”. This competition attracted 61 teams from 24 universities and colleges including: Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Ocean University of China, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-sen University, Harbin Engineering University and Naval University of Engineering, and 45 teams participated in the competition at National Ocean Technology Center in Tianjin. Media reporters from Enorth and China Tianjin Radio and TV had an exclusive interview with the research team of Multifunctional Acoustic Underwater Robot, and Xinhuanet also reported on the performance of YSU teams.
