[News from the News Center] At 16:00, March 8, YSU 12thAwarding Ceremony for Leifeng Figures was held at 209 of Student Activity Center, East Campus. After the recommendation, preliminary assessment and re-evaluation, Bu Penglei from School of Information Science and Engineering, YSU 1stGraduate Student Education Assistance Group, Wang Counselor Yihua from School of Humanities and Law, An Jianglei from Security Office, and teacher Liu Yanyan from School of Information Science and Engineering sent to support Xinjiang were elected YSU 12thLeifeng figures. YSU Vice President Huang Sheng attended the ceremony as well as directors of the Communist Youth League YSU Committee, Security Office, School of Information Science and Engineering, Publicity Department under the Party committee and School of Humanities and Law.

Li Xida, on behalf of the Communist Youth League YSU Committee, is delivering a speech
The ceremony started after the video reviewing the election process of Lei Feng figures. Li Xida delivered a speech, in which she extended her salute and gratitude to the selfless teachers and students. She said, each of the Lei Feng figures’ stories touched our hearts and quietly inspired everyone at YSU since the beginning of this election. After entering the new era, students should hold the attitude of hard working and contribute to the society, through which this sprit can encourage and involve more people on our campus. Then, through the video and introduction, the audiences had a more profound understanding of the five candidates’ deeds. Bu Penglei from School of Information Science and Engineering regards the education of children in remote area as the most important task, and serve the students as his own obligation. YSU 1stGraduate Student Education Assistance Group taught at the Delingha Second Middle School of Haixi Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province for one year, he overcame various difficulties, the tough natural condition, different living habits and customs among ethnic regions, none of which can stop them from volunteering to teach. Counselor Wang Yihua from School of Humanities and Law cares about his students both in teaching and in students’ daily life. He has established a close home-school bond in the form of the letter and the on-the-spot visits. An Jianglei from Security Office helped one lost senior citizen find his home and send him back safely. Teacher Liu Yanyan from School of Information Science and Engineering, confronting the harsh environmental and working conditions, spent three years helping to build the first undergraduate major in Bazhou Xinjiang. He was deeply loved by the local people.

The Party Secretary of School of Information Science and Engineering Lu Huibin said, Liu Yanyan was not only an ordinary teacher but also the witness of national unity. We need to learn from Liu, remain true to our original aspiration and contribute to Chinese education.
