[News from the News Center] The 21st "FLTRP Cup” National Debating Competition--the North China Division ended on April 15 at the China University of Petroleum (Beijing). YSU Liren College organized students to participate in this competition for the first time. Han Yue majoring in Chinese Language and Literature and Shang Hao majoring in Mechanical Engineering attended the competition and eventually won the third prize. Teacher Xing Jiqiang was granted the “Excellent Jury Award”.

The competition was organized by some influential organizations or educational institutions. 87 institutions from Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei Province, Liaoning Province, Jilin Province and Heilongjiang Province participated in the competition. The competition went through five rounds of competitions and the final debate titled "We should deny the existence of 'eternity'". All competitions are manually scored.
It is reported that the Liberal Arts Department of Grammar and Foreign Languages as an event organizing unit had previously conducted an open selection for the students of the entire college. The teacher Xing Jiqiang participated in the training activities. The English Debating Competition has improved students' language expression, logical thinking, and rapid response, insomuch as students’ ability in the comprehensive application of foreign languages was greatly enhanced.
