YSU won awards in the 2019 MathorCup College Mathematical Modeling Challenge

[News from the News Center] Recently, the 20th MathorCup College Mathematical Modeling Competition – OralAnswerfor Special Prize was held at the University of Science and Technology of China. YSU team consisting of students Huang Yu, Cui Xiaojin, from the Department of Information and Computing Science, and Yang Tao from theSchool of Electrical Engineering won the Special Prize.In addition, our students won 13 First Prizes, 11 Second Prizes and 11 Third Prizes in the undergraduate group. The postgraduates won one Second Prize. At the same time, our teacher Zhang Yin won the award of Excellent Instructor.

The competition was organized by the School of Science and received strong substantial support from the Academic Affairs Office, the Research Institute, the Youth League Committee and other YSU Schools. A total of 50 teams participated in the competition. The topics of the competition mostly come from the actual problems of the enterprise. Among them, senior algorithm experts from some famous enterprises such as Alibaba, MathWorks and Didi Travel participated in the competition, which fully reflects the application of mathematics in practical problems. In the competition, YSU students had displayed their teamwork ability and applied mathematics to solve practical problems.

The 9th MathorCup College Mathematical Modeling Challenge is a competition organized by the China Preferred Law Coordination and Economic Mathematics Research Association for full-time college students. The MathorCup College Mathematical Modeling Challenge final was held on July 19-21, 2019. There were 501 colleges and universities, with a total of 5,637 teams participating in, and the final 14 teams go to finals. Each year, our university organizes students to participate in various mathematical modeling contests, providing resources for students, offering training courses, popularizing mathematical modeling knowledge among students, and inspiring students to explore mathematics and solve practical problems with mathematics, which greatly improved our students’ innovative spirit, team awareness, and their abilities.
